On Transition | Summer 2024

Hi all,

Writing for the first time in a while! A lot has been happening personally and professionally for me in the last 6 months, and many of those things are coming together in radically evolving ways. The nonprofit creative reuse center I’ve been co-leading for the last year and a half, Sister Trillium, just opened it’s doors last month! I have also been busy with continuing education courses and begun incorporating cupping and more Myofascial Release techniques into my practice, which has really been energizing the work for both myself and clients. All of this while feeling an impending readiness for a bigger shift of orientation and what currently resonates as home.

Since my life transition last summer, I’ve known the following year would inform my next steps, and all signals seem to be pointing to Cincinnati. I’m excited to continue to nurture my relationships and interests there with more devotion, and happy for the opportunity in my 5th year of practice to reshape and assess what my business looks like. This change is of course bittersweet! It’s been such an honor to provide care to each of you. I’m especially grateful to those who have been clients since the beginning and have witnessed me in my ongoing professional growth. Just massively thankful to all of you for your support and trusting me with your body’s healing processes.

At the beginning of August I will be moving into an apartment in Clifton’s Gaslight District and begin building a practice there on my usual days off. During my normal workdays (W-Sat) I will continue to commute to Yellow Springs to see my clients there. I anticipate slowly tapering my workdays in YS as needed over the course of the next 6-9 months until I attain a full client base in Cincinnati. It’s uncertain to me at this point which days may be compromised first, but I will keep you individually updated with as much notice of schedule changes as possible.

Skilled, available Licensed Massage Therapists in our area have not been aplenty, but please be assured I am also scouting out potential bodyworkers who would work well for my clients as my YS schedule shifts. If you are someone who would be willing to travel to Dayton, please let me know so I can put out feelers there, too.

BIZ NOTES

LOCATION UPDATES
Starting this month, my YS office will be relocated to the Mindfully Well Center just down the street at 1525 Xenia Ave where I will be sharing a room with my colleague, Cheryl Durgans. Upon entering the office for your appointment, please leave your shoes by the door and have a seat in the waiting room where I will greet you when ready.

RATES
Rates will remain the same for established clients in YS. There will be an increased rate for both new clients and sessions in Cincinnati, and I will be updating those prices on my website accordingly.

I also want to offer the reminder that you can save 6.75% (that’s $6-10 per visit!) by requesting and providing an annually updated prescription note for medical massage. Ask your DO, GP, chiropractor, or dentist for a simple handwritten note.

FAT AND THE MOON PARTNERSHIP
I've been using Fat and the Moon's body products in my personal routine for years now, so I'm really stoked to join their new Practitioner Program and get to integrate these healing formulas into my practice. FATM are an amazing female-lead company that prioritizes using ethically sourced ingredients, recycleable packaging, and creating their recipes in small batches to maintain high quality. Excited to share these plant medicines with you!

I L L U M I N A T I O N S

Sore Muscle Salve by Fat and the Moon
Circulation promoting Cayenne pairs with tension reducing St. John's wort and Tobacco as a powerfully supportive topical salve! Clove also adds to the warming properties which stimulates healing blood flow. This salve is spicy, so take care to not spread near the eyes or mouth!

Chair Lunges
I learned about this modified lunge in one of Carmen Milano’s restorative yoga classes a couple years ago and find it’s really helpful for folks who are working on their balance or simply want to feel more supported in the pose.

> Find a flat-seated chair with a back.
> Sit on the side of the chair using your arm on the back of the chair as
support. Check to make sure your back feels tall and straight.
> Keep your inside leg at a 90 degree bend, and scoot to the front edge
of the chair so that your glutes of the same side are still supported as
you bring your opposite leg/glutes off the edge of the seat.
> Now that opposite leg has the range to move back, extending the hip
into a traditional lunge position.
> Adjust as needed to feel a comfortable stretch through the front of the
extended hip and thigh.
